Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee

WHEREAS on February 4, 2016, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee directed staff to work with the Manotick Culture, Parks and Recreation Association (MCPRA) to identify a project lead at the City to help carry out the Mahogany Harbour Dock project proposed by the MCPRA, located within the city right-of-way (Manotick Main Street at Eastman Avenue) and Parks Canada Rideau Canal (ultimate concept plan attached); and WHEREAS due to the location of the project and its economic merits, a Rural Affairs Strategist within the Economic Development Branch has been identified as the staff lead, and, has been working with the MCPRA, Ward Councillor and various stakeholders including Parks Canada towards project implementation; and WHEREAS the project is anticipated to proceed in stages, with a temporary dock (owned and operated by Parks Canada), access staircase and landscaped area to be in place by the summer of 2017 (phase one), with the intent of constructing a permanent dock in the future, after funding sources have been confirmed (phase two); and WHEREAS since the vision for the dock is included in the Council-approved Manotick Secondary Plan and is supported by the community and Manotick Business Improvement Area, the project has received $15,000 through Economic Development’s Rural Community Building Grant to pay for the access staircase; and WHEREAS the community has raised $35,000 of the $47,100 needed to complete phase one of the project and another sold out fundraiser wi
