WHEREAS the intersection of McCordick Road and Pollock Road would be made safer if traffic along Pollock Road was required to stop at McCordick Road, which is the larger and busier of the two roads; and WHEREAS currently, this intersection has a two-way stop control configuration, with stop signs only on McCordick Road requiring traffic along McCordick Road to stop at Pollock Road; and WHEREAS installing new stop signs for traffic on Pollock Road to establish a four-way stop at this intersection has been identified by residents as the preferred approach for improving safety because the other potential option, which is to maintain a two-way stop and move the existing stop signs from McCordick Road to Pollock Road, may result in additional safety concerns and confusion for road users who are accustomed to the current stop sign locations on McCordick Road; and WHEREAS staff has advised that the implementation of a four-way stop at this intersection could be accomplished by way of a Council motion; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee recommend that City Council approve of the installation of stop signs on Pollock Road at McCordick Road and complete any associated works required to establish a four-way stop control configuration at that intersection.
